Tree of Life, 1977. Color photograph (1948-1985) Nevada Museum

Artist Maya Lin's lobby installation in Penn's newest Pavilion hospital building. U. of PA, Philly

A long overdue memorial tattoo in honor of Kevin T. Szocik who was killed on 9/11/01. It is a Celtic Tree of Life. There are a few different "meanings"but I believe in it symbolizing life, death, and re-birth or life after death, whatever you want to call it.

This is my first tattoo with meaning behind it.

I hope my boy is smiling down with pride on this one.

I made the aluminum repousse tree, then riveted it onto copper. 1.75" x 2.25" without the bail.

Please don't use this photo on websites, blogs or other media without my written permission. (c) Yago Veith www.yago1.com - Flickr Interesting

pattern Tree of life by carina,

I printed the pattern directly to the fabric by ironing it to some freezer paper, even tho my printer is only 8.5x11, i folded the sides over to give me some room on the edges.. worked perfectly. no more tracing!

fabric is osnaburg, v. cheap linen like.. easy to stitch

I used to have the great pleasure of cutting these patterns and I was pleasantly surprised to see them on Google Earth. I have poured my soul out along these paths and amongst these spheres. To me they called back and answered my soul songs. These pictures give me the platform as a visionary belvedere, a pronounced observatory to let my eyes begin to take my spirit on journeys into the skies and under the earth into the places below that act as a divine echo to join the balanced harmony of above and below forever held internally.

The bottom half of my tree tattoo is done! Taken during the second break. The bottom half wasn't all that bad - the worst is about to come as the leaves get outlined. My advice: if it's at all possible to avoid ever getting your ribs tattooed... don't do it!

A beautiful image of the Tree of Life sheltering every kind of bird and beast. Saxon.

And he showed me a river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God, and of the Lamb.

In the midst of the street thereof, and on both sides of the river, was the tree of life, bearing twelve fruits, yielding its fruits every month, and the leaves of the tree for the healing of the nations.

And there shall be no curse any more: but the throne of God, and of the Lamb, shall be in it, and his servants shall serve him.

And they shall see his face: and his name shall be on their foreheads.

And night shall be no more: and they shall not need the light of a lamp, nor the light of the sun; for the Lord God shall enlighten them, and they shall reign for ever and ever.

Apocalypse 22:1-5

Apocalisse 22:1-5

Floss on muslin; this is my "anger" piece. After a snooty old stitcher told me I couldn't join her local embroidery group because I "didn't do traditional embroidery", I was SO pissed, I went home, researched the MOST traditional icon (tree of life), designed an original piece, stitched it, and went back to her superior the next week -- who promptly gave me a lifetime membership! heh heh

For the tree it's root system is it's life supply. Interesting, how in this photograph, the roots mimics the shape of a tree itself.

When I found this one in my archives at work today, I somehow had to think about Orson Welles. ;o)

Godly people are suppose to be as “trees of life; the fruits of their charity, their examples, and prayers, their interest in heaven, and their influence upon earth, are like the fruits of that tree, contributing to the nourishment of the spiritual life in many; they are the ornaments of paradise, God’s church on earth.” --- Comments based on MATTHEW HENRY’S COMMENTARY.

Love the comment that we are to be “contributing nourishment of the spiritual life in many." What does that look like? Here’s an example:

Synonyms for nourish: cherish, cultivate, sustain, tend, attend, comfort, encourage, foster, maintain, nurse, nurture, promote, provide, supply, support.

Antonyms (opposites) of nourish: abandon, ignore, neglect, condemn, deprive, discourage, take, hurt.

Tree Of Life

Yr 2014

Size: 5.5"W X 7"H inches.

Acrylic on wood.

By Artist Philippe Fernandez

It depicts a threefold tree, possibly symbolising the Trinity and the three crosses on Calvary.

From the exit path of Tough To Be A Bug

The Apple of the Flamboyant Star or apple of the gnosis: The symbol is originally a DATTE or a BLUE FIGUE (the Figa of Compostela) and it is therefore the center of the VESICA (the rings of the Zodiac). Then it will become the APPLE (or pinecone) in the West. The RED APPLE represents the divine knowledge (gnosis) and the secret initiation (the red pill) of the PENTACLE, because when you cut an apple in two horizontally, two PENTACLES appear revealing the yellow, the GOLD! It's magical (he's happy!)

At the very top of the tree, a large raven with a white head sits plucking transparent, white pearls from the branches, while a flock of other birds fly in all directions. The three generations are robed in the principal colours of alchemy. The boy is dressed in black, the colour used to designate the beginning; white, which symbolises the intermediary stage, the opus parvum, is the dominant colour in the coat of his father, Aeneas; and the shawl of the family elder, Anchises, is red, signifying perfection or the opus magnum. Soaring birds are frequently used in alchemy to symbolise sublimation, which could also be symbolised in this instance by the white-hooded raven, its black body equating to the sublimate that remains behind in the retort. In the alchemical process this would designate the transition from the nigredo to the albedo phase, from black to white.

Natul tortuosa

Family: Fagaceae

Genus: Natul

Species: tortuosa

Synonyms: Mirabilis lindheimeri, M. dichotoma

The branching pattern and soil moisture adaptability, from wet to dry, gives it a spot in the landscape for those interested in oddities. Note that the contortion levels increase with more vigourous growth...so if it is planted for drought tolerance, it will not grow as well. This is probably best sited as a single specimen or accent plant.
